04/14/09- CLEAR!!! "I Am the Resurrection and the Life" There's nothing more scary than a DEFIBRILLATOR! You know...that tool used with extraordinary amounts of electrical force after the doctor shouts, "CLEARRRRR!!!!"
The DEFIBRILLATOR is your last line of life before you meet God face to face. If that can't bring you to life, NOTHING CAN!
In John 11, Lazarus has just died. Jesus has lost one of His closest friends. Mary and Martha have lost a younger brother. Tragedy has struck! Mary and Martha are offended, hurt, and confused because of the combination of the tragedy and Jesus' "lack of response". Martha's final response to this tragedy is to SEE GOD more clearly in the middle of the tragedy while Mary responds by HIDING and ACCUSING Jesus.
In the middle of so much chaos, Jesus reacts by calling Himself "...the resurrection and the life"...THE GREAT DEFIBRILLATOR! The end result is Lazarus being raised from the dead and Mary responding in the next chapter by taking a bottle of perfume worth several thousands of dollars, breaking it, pouring it over Jesus' head and feet, and wiping it with her hair.
We live in a time where things feel like they are dying with great consistency - relationships...situations...our health...character. When tragedy strikes, how will you respond? Where will God be in the midst of it? These important questions have answers found in this amazing story:
1. Why did Jesus wait TWO DAYS to come Lazarus' support?
TRANSLATION: How do you respond when Jesus doesn't COME THROUGH?
ANSWER: Could it be he "HOLDS OUT" because he's planning to give you something better?
2. When tragedy hits, are you more like MARTHA who sees God more clearly, or Martha who HIDES and ACCUSES God?
3. What's the purpose of challenges/tragedies?
ANSWER: To take you to the NEXT LEVEL!
NOTE: Mary went to the NEXT LEVEL because of this tragedy. She BROKE what mattered most to her, and poured it on Jesus.
